My Son's Taste In Music

Something happened last November that I was not prepared for.

My son turned thirteen.

I know the teen years are tough ones, when kids learn who they are, and who they want to be. It is a time when they learn to make their own decisions, and that those decisions can have serious consequences. It is also the time that they will fight for their independence. In my house, with my son, this includes his taste in music.

You see, we have always been a country music family. We do listen to some 80's rock, but as far as contemporary music, I have no idea who half the current singers and groups are. Well, my Ryan has become an expert. Thanks to the iPod, kids are sharing their music with each other at school. This has introduced my child to different artists, and I have to say, I feel like my parents. Oh man, did I just say that? Maybe it's better to say I now understand how they felt when as a teenager, the only sound coming out of my room for years were eighties power ballads. They didn't understand that, and I sure as heck don't understand Ryan's music.

I will, however, give him the courtesy of listening to the new hip hop artists that he has come to like. I listened to a song on ICEBLOC's newest album KRANKMUZIK and honestly don't think it's all bad. Is it the type of music I listen too? No. But I am open to letting my son listen to it, as long as he doesn't blast it throughout the house. The group is made up of two guys who have their heads on their shoulders. J.Keys was in the military, and started out on the business end of the industry. Vito spend his growing up years focused on making music, and wasn't always the most popular kids because of that. These two guys together show that with hard work and dedication, dreams can come true. That is something I want my son to know, because it is so important to not give up on your dreams.

So, will you catch me listening to this album and singing along? probably not. But I am pretty sure my son will love it, and that's okay with me.

Stare Death In The Eye

As the racing engines roar with the squeal of tires they are barreling to the starting line. The referee raises his hands and throws them down saying the race has started. The two furious racers race their engines and they go down a back road leading into a main road. The smoke from the tires on the assfault billows into the stillness of the night, making it hard to see. As the smoke clears, visibility slowly returns with a BAM! The crowd goes silent as they listen to the cars roll. Now through the smoke we see an orange and red glow. Now we hear a BAM, but more like a bomb because the fire hit the gas tank. We hear sirens from everywhere. We can't tell what direction they are coming from. As the driver opens his eyes he finds nothing but lights. Red and blue and also a white from a flashlight. Only one driver emerges and the other driver was buried two days later. The driver that emerged said "I thought I was just going to race my best friend, but instead I killed my best friend". That is why I believe street racing is dangerous. So I encourage all kids, adults, and even teenagers, a street race might make you feel like it is the way to handle a big problem. Then it can also be your one way ticket to death. So if you ever feel like you have to race a friend to settle something, settle it another way. Do not drag or street race even if it is at a drag strip where it is made for that. Street racing is dangerous.

Blog Therapy

Why do you write on your blog day after day?

I have asked a few people this question, and have gotten very similar answers, the basis of which is that blogging can be therapeutic. This is especially true for personal blogs. I have this blog, and my craft blog, and my picture blog. I also have a blog that is very personal to me. It is there that I write the events of my day, the struggles I face with my weight, and the way I feel about life. I know I feel better after I write an entry. Doing so makes me face the things I did that day, and writing it down helps me to make sense of things. Did that make sense? If you blog, I bet you followed along pretty well.

I have been trying to encourage my husband to write a blog. I told him he could keep it private, where no one would be able to read it. I just think putting things in writing can help him to deal with everything he's been discussing in therapy. (I think most of you already know that he goes to therapy once a week) I found this site where you can write a blog, journaling depression
or any other mental health issue, like anxiety, depression, substance-abuse, and even PTSD. The military is using this as a tool to help soldiers returning from over seas, and health care providers are also using it as a way for their patients to keep track of their progress. But, you do not have to be in therapy to use this site. It is designed to benefit everyone, even those individuals who are not yet ready to seek professional help.

The creators of this site have invested years of research to create this first ever online journaling tool based on cognitive behavior therapy. They are America's #1 Source of Online Therapy Journaling. I checked out the site, and was pretty impressed with what I saw. You can blog freely, or answer specific questions that are designed to track your progress. You can even make up your own questions. It is obvious from what I saw on this site that they care about people, and honestly want to help people get better.

I am hoping that I can get my husband to see the benefits of writing things down. He has made tremendous progress going to therapy, but I know there are things he holds back. I want him to have a safe place to work through things, and I truly believe he will find that with this site.

The First Death In The US

I am listening to the news, and just heard that the US has it's first death from the swine flu. That's a little scary. But, I remember the panic when the bird flu came out, and it never got as bad as they predicted, so hopefully the same will happen with this. I mean, it is horrible that anyone has to die from this, but I hope that the number of people who do die remains low. For this to be the case, people will have to protect themselves if they work or live in areas where this flu is reported. There are swine flu kits available to help prevent the spread of this flu strain, and maybe if people take the proper precautions, we can keep the spread of this to a minimum.

We Had This Neighbor...

When we lived at the other house, we had this neighbor named Mary. Mary was white, and she had two little girls, Charity and Lauren, who had black fathers. Kasi and Charity became best friends, and Mary and I became friends. This was about three years ago. A couple of months before we met, Mary had heart surgery, and ended up losing her job. She had zero income, and neither one of the girls fathers were paying child support. The only source of income she had was food stamps.

She started spending a lot of time at our house, eating our food. She claimed she had to sell her food stamps to her friends so she could have money for rent and necessities. There was one month when junior and I paid her power bill for her, so that the girls wouldn't spend the summer months living without power. To pay us back, she bought us food with her food stamps.

Then her kids started breaking my kids toys, and she wouldn't say anything to them, and would just look at me and say sorry. One thing in particular was Brandi's doll swing that cost us $30. Her youngest, Lauren, sat in the seat and broke the part that made it swing. Mary just looked at me and said there was nothing she could do because she had no money. This was after months of her eating every meal at my house...that's three extra people we had to feed...and spending endless hours on my computer. She would walk in the room where my kids were watching tv and tell them to give her the remote, because she was the adult. (I didn't know at the time...Ryan told me later) I never told Junior about the broken swing, because I knew he would be furious. He was already a little ticked that she was giving out our phone number to her friends and stuff because her phone was turned off.

Well, one day in the late summer, our car broke down. The kids were back in school at this time, so we borrowed a truck that only seated three people to go run some errands and get the parts to fix our car. As we were pulling out of our driveway, she was walking up the road to our house, and flagged us down. She wanted to know where we were going without her, because she needed to go to the grocery store (her food stamps had come in that day). Junior told her we couldn't fit everyone in the truck, and that we had things to do that day. Well, she got so mad. She acted like it was OUR responsibility to get her to the store..oh, because her car was repossessed. Anyway, the next day, she sent her oldest daughter, who was 7, up the road to get a roll of toilet paper. Junior was in the yard, and she walked up to him and said her mom said to get a roll of toilet paper from us. No "can we borrow one", but "mom said to get one". Well, Junior told her no, and sent her home empty handed. That was when Brandi said something about her broken swing. Junior lost it. he drove down to her house and told her not to come back to our house because it was not our job to keep them up, especially if her kids were going to break our kids stuff.

Not too long after that, she moved, Well, technically, she got evicted. A few months later we ran into the friend of hers that she moved in with, in wal-mart, and I asked about her. The woman said Mary was in jail for assaulting her. I was shocked. The woman also went on to say how Mary told her that my husband was racist and hated black people, and that is why he told her not to come back to our house. That's right, the man who fed her and her kids, paid her bills, took her where she needed to go, and let her practically live at our house for about four months, is a racist and hated her kids.

I was so angry at first, but then I found it amusing that she would feel the need to say things about us instead of admit that she was in the wrong. But, whatever.

Why am I telling you all this?

Well, today we had to go get a new cable box, so we grabbed Brandi off the bus and headed there. She was hungry, so we stopped at McD's to get her a happy meal. She ran out to play in the playland and Junior and I ordered. I went out there to see what she wanted to drink, and who was sitting out there but Mary. She did not look happy to see me. She was even more unhappy to see Junior. But I was nice, said hi, asked about her kids...she had the youngest with her...and she was nice enough back.. I was tempted to ask her about what she said about Junior, but I didn't.

I was very, very nice.

Even though she didn't deserve it.

Yellow In The Kitchen?

I have been talking about repainting my kitchen for a while. I may end up having to get some College Pro Painters Toronto to come and give me an estimate. The biggest problem I ma having, though, is picking a color. My kitchen and living room share a wall, and are open in to each other, so whatever color I chose would have to look good in both rooms. Right now they are an off white color, and I think I want something brighter. I would love to paint one or two of the walls yellow in the kitchen, and then accent the other two with it. I would have to paint the cabinets either white or brown, because they are off white right now, too. the land lord prefers we use neutral colors on the walls, so I guess I'll have to get their permission first. I don't see how they can object if I promise to paint it back off white when we move.

Wordless Wednesday ~ 4/29

I took this picture Sunday when the kids were playing in the sprinkler.
Our nice weather has continued since then, with highs in the 80's.
I think we're looking at rain in the next few days, which is going to stink because we have our zoo trip planned for this weekend.
Hopefully the storms will move through quickly, and we will have sunny skies by Saturday
Keep your fingers crossed!

Let's Make Some Money

Investing can be easy. Wicked Profits has been shown to make your money work for you in both a strong and weak market. They recommend that your invest at least $15,000 with a brokerage firm of your choice, and then using their recommendations, make the investment. Using their unique options trading strategy, it is possible to go months without a losing trade. Wickedprofits.com does not hold your money, the brokerage firm does, so you are always in control of your money. In reviewing their statistics, you will see that since April 2000, they have achieved an average monthly return of 5.01%, a cumulative return of 536.48%, and a win ratio of 81.93%. I'm no expert, but those look like pretty good numbers to me. They recommend one trade per month, and they close out in 35 days, win or lose. They will tell you exactly what to do, so you will feel comfortable following their advice.

As with any investment, there is no guarantee that you will not lose some money, so make sure you can afford to lose the money you invest. The statistics shown above are from the past, and can not be a prediction of the future. There is always risk involved, so do your research, and know what you are getting into. I have family members who have money in the stock market, and it can be scary sometimes. I wish Junior and I had the money to try things out, because we sure could use some extra money. Coming up with the $15,000 to invest would be impossible for us right now, but maybe one day we will be financially able to make some money in the stock market. They say you can't win unless you take a chance, and I would be more than happy to take that chance with wickedprofits.com.

Look What Was In My Mailbox Today

A couple of weeks ago, I entered a giveaway over at Miss Donna's blog, and this was my prize. I love it!!!!! How did she know we were big food network junkies around here, and that Paula Deen is one of our favorites?

Of course, I was reading it as soon as I opened the package, and boy did I find a bunch of great tips.

Did you know:

...you can use dental floss to slice a cheesecake easily?

...you can use 2tbsp corn oil plus 1tbsp water as a substitute for an egg in a recipe?

...if you heat the pan before sauteing, things won't stick?

...adding 1tbsp to ho grease keeps the food you are deep frying from absorbing too much fat?

These are just a few of the awesome tips that she shares. I can not wait to try some of these recipes. Thanks Miss Donna!!!!!

Mother's Day Gift Certificate

I won a $50 gift card to Photofiddlecom last December from a fellow blogger. I took a picture of my kids, played around with it on there site, and then had copies delivered to my house, which I then framed and gave out as Christmas gifts. The site was easy to use, and the pictures came out beautiful. My point is to think of them for mothers day gifts. Right now, you can email mom@photofiddle.com before May 4th to get a $10 gift certificate. That's right, a free $10 gift certificate. You can also follow them on twitter (http://twitter.com/photofiddle) to find out about other awesome deals.

What are you waiting for? Go. Get your gift certificate.

Work For Yourself

Are you tired of working to make money for someone else? Wouldn't it be great to be your own boss, to only work when you wanted to, and to make enough money online that you would be able to quit your "real" job? Do you want To Learn How? I know I do.

So lets talk about Maverick Money Makers. The basis of this program is that you are helping successful companies promote their products. The companies will then pay you a nice commission for every sale you help them make. Sounds simple enough, right? You never have to call anyone, you don't have to design your own website, and you don't have to buy any software or products. You don't even have to rely solely on the internet. This program can work offline as well. You do have to pay $97 for the program, but it comes with a 100% money back guarantee. This means that if you try the system and don't make money, you get your $97 back. That makes this kind of hard to pass up, right? You have nothing to lose, and potentially so much to gain. If you want to start making more money than you ever have before, go check out this program.

ZebraDocs

I feel like my kids know more about the computer than I do. My son came home a few weeks ago and asked if he could make a power point presentation instead of writing out a report for school. He said his teacher said it was fine, and to just put it on a jump drive and bring it to class.

After explaining to me what a power point and jump drive were, he rolled his eyes and sat down to do his project.

I decided then and there that I need to learn how to use all the things that they use. I think I am going to invest in ZebraDocs 2009, the professional version contains word processing, spreadsheet software, and math and drawing applications. This is compatible with Microsoft Office 2007, which is good because I already have all of that on my computer. This program costs $49.95 for the professional, or $29.95 for the standard, and can be ordered on their website. I really want to learn how to use it before I show it to my kids. Maybe then there will be less eye rolling.

Brandi's Performance

video
Ryan shot the video, so it's not the best, but you can see her and that's really all that matters. Each class in the first grade was a different color, and they each came down front to do a song. It really was pretty cute.

Junior wasn't able to go...he was working...so Brandi made him sit and watch the entire video. I am only sharing Brandi's class with you all. Enjoy!

Texting For Prizes

Do you text? I used to, but gave it up months ago. I am a firm believer that, if you have something to say to me, call. It's that simple.

Now I found out that you can enter sweepstakes by texting at SMSnia.com. Just go to the site and look around. Choose the sweepstakes that you want to enter, and follow the three easy steps below selected prize. It's that simple. It is $2.99 to enter a sweepstakes, and it's a pretty interesting concept. Each prize has a specific numbered text that will be the winner. For example, the prize right now is a HD television, and every 1,333ed text will win one. Now, when you send in your text, if you are not a winner, it will tell you what number you were, and how many texts have been sent in the past thirty minutes, so you can figure out the best strategy to win. It sounds challenging, and frustrating all at the same time. If you can time your texts just right, you could walk away with a bunch of prizes.

They are even offering a way for us bloggers to make a little money. All you have to do is put a badge on your page, and if a player clicks on it and plays, you will make a 30% commission. Not bad, huh?

Helping Hands

As much as my kids argue and fight, they really do love each other. It is obvious in this picture...
They were in the creek, trying to catch something in the net. The girls were having a hard time walking, so Ryan was lending a hand.
When push comes to shove, he is right there protecting his sisters.
I hope he always feels like this...

The Zombie Chicken Award

"The blogger who receives this award believes in the Tao of the zombie chicken - excellence, grace and persistence in all situations, even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. These amazing bloggers regularly produce content so remarkable that their readers would brave a raving pack of zombie chickens just to be able to read their inspiring words. As a recipient of this world-renowned award, you now have the task of passing it on to at least 5 other worthy bloggers. Do not risk the wrath of the zombie chickens by choosing unwisely or not choosing at all…"

Thank you Tammy for passing this award along to me! You're the best, and fully deserving of this, too.

All you ladies, and John, deserve this award because you are brilliantly talented, and I love your blogs!

Check Your Credit

Junior and I have lousy credit. The past couple of years we have been working towards getting back on track, and I think we are finally making some progress. For years, we didn't have any type of back account, and our finances were a mess. We now have a checking account, and are working towards applying for a credit card. I found this site where you can do a general credit check just by answering a few generic questions. I did it, and was told I have fair credit. This is a big step up from the horrible credit we have had in the past. Of course, for an accurate credit score, I would have to give more personal information. They did, however, show me the credit card offers that cater to people with fair credit. The only bad thing is that I am sure that our interest rate would be extremely high.

At cardhub.com, you can also buy gift cards, or read informative articles that give you tips to improving your credit score, or that explain all things related to credit cards like transfer fees and identity theft. Plainly put, you can find out just about everything you want to know about credit cards in one place.

Made Of Honor

I am not one of those women who think Patrick Dempsey is hot. I don't think he's ugly, but I just don't see what all the fuss is about. That said, I still wanted to see this movie, because it looked good.

It's all about Tom (Dempsey) and Hannah (Michelle Monaghan). They have been best friends for years, with Tom being the ladies man with rules about women he will not break. Hannah is the best friend he drags to family affairs, and spends all his time with. When Hannah goes away for 6 weeks, Tom realises he loves her. Planning to tell her the night she returns, Tom is surprised when Hannah comes home with a fiance. He is even more surprised when Hannah asks him to be her Maid Of Honor. Tom accepts, and spends the rest of the movie trying to show Hannah how wrong her fiance is for her, all the while hiding the fact that he things he is the one she should be with.

I really enjoyed this movie. It was sweet and funny and romantic. I definitely recommend watching this movie.

Looking For Love?

Do you love horses?

Are you also looking for someone to share that love with?

If so, equestrian cupid is the perfect place for you to meet that someone special. Unlike other dating sites, this is a community of horse lovers. It's a place where you can meet people, and share all the things you love about horses and riding. You can discuss the best trails, and maybe find new places to ride that you were never aware of. They offer FREE sign-up, so you have nothing to lose by checking them out.

I was browsing the site myself, and found that they have a chat room. I think this is a great way to get in touch with people before actually doing the face to face thing. They even have a listing of equestrian blogs. I know from experience that you can tell a lot about a person by what they write online. You can watch videos all about horses, or check out their forums.

So if you are looking for a horse lover to share your life with, this is the place to be. The sign up form is simple, and shouldn't take more then a couple of minutes. Just answer some basic questions, and you will be on your way to connecting with people who share your love horses.

The Blogger Awards

My awesome friend Tammy gave me this award. She was so sweet to think of me! I know I am supposed to pass this along, but I am just so worn out right now. The thought of having to link to everyone makes me tired.

So I'm going to cheat a little.

If you are on my blogroll, consider this an award for you, because I love each and every one of you!!!!!

A Great New Search Engine

I love finding ways to make my life easier. That said, I was so excited to hear about AAfter.com. This site is so cool. I just went there, and typed in my zip code, and it brought up so much information about my town. I was looking at everything from restaurants to specialized doctor's care. I could even Find local business faster using AAfter.com search. My favorite Chinese restaurant was even included in the listings.

There are so many other great ways to use this site, too. You can type in any question, and have answers pop up from wiki, yahoo, chacha, eHow, YouTube, and many other popular sites. AAfter.com will even do spell check on your question, so mistypes or misspelled words are correctable before the search is even begun. Kids can use this site for homework assistance, and you can even post anonymously on Twitter.

Now that's pretty cool!

Do I Need A Host?

I have been thinking, seriously thinking, about making this blog a dot com. I have solicited the advice of friends, and done a little research on the internet. I have to tell you, there is so much information out there, and it can be very confusing for people like me, whose internet skills are lacking.

I did find webhostinggeeks.com, and they have so much information available, and it is all in easy to understand charts. Nothing explains things better than charts. I was able to see the top 10 web hosting sites, and even though I have decided to leave my blog right here, it was interesting to see all of my options in one place. I was also able to gather some information about multiple domain hosting which could come in handy if I decide to "dot com" all of my blogs. I would be able to have them all on one account, instead of having different accounts for each site. That would have to make things easier.

I just have to say that I am so lucky to have knowledgeable friends who are willing to take the time to help me figure all of this out. I just hope that someday I am able to return the favor. There are other things that I might be able to help them with, like how to crochet a baby blanket or bake an awesome snickerdoodle.

101!!!!!

I just noticed that I now have over 100 followers. I wonder when that happened? All I can say is:

Without you, I would be writing to myself! lol! It is amazing to me how many people I touch with this blog, and how many blogs touch me on a daily basis. I just passed the second birthday of this blog, and in the next week or so I will be making another little change around here. You can't wait, right? I know you're excited!
Seriously, my followers are the best, and I just wanted you to know that I appreciate each and every one of you!

Let emTain Search For You

Have you heard of a new site where you can search for videos, and make playlists that you can share with your friends? If not, you should check out emTain - Your Multimedia Find Engine. You can search for anything, and this site will show you the results from youtube, google, and others. I searched for Sugarland, and a whole bunch of stuff came up. There were videos of their songs, as well as videos of people doing covers of their songs. I then just put in "settlin", which is one of my favorite songs they sing, and there were a bunch of results. This site can save you a whole lot of time if you are trying to find videos of something, or someone, and don't know where to look first. Let emTain search for you. You can even search via an OSX dashboard widget, iGoogle Gadgets and Twitter. They even have an iPhone app in the works.

My Early Mother's Day Gift

Junior bought this home from work the other day, because he knew I would love it.
Don't you?
It's got a cactus in it, and I have never been able to keep a cactus alive.
I have tried, several times, and they always die.
At least if this one dies, I still have an awesome elephant planter!

So, share with me tour cactus secrets...I need all the help I can get!

My Family Of Survivors

I have a family history of breast cancer. It seems inevitable that at some point in my future, one of my sisters, or even myself, will be diagnosed with this awful disease. I know they say now that family history doesn't mean you will definitely develop it, but it's scary none the less. My Great Grandmother had it, my Grandmother had it, and my Aunt, my mother's older sister, had it. The good news is that both my Grandmother and my Aunt are breast cancer survivors.

You all know about my scare. I never admitted it at the time, but I was pretty worried. I knew being overweight, and having large breasts were risk factors, and with my family history, I was certain they were going to find something. Luckily, they didn't, but who knows what my future holds. I am thinking about ways that I can increase the odds of survival if I do someday get diagnosed with breast cancer. I have written about C'elle before, and all the amazing things they are doing with a baby's cord blood. They are also doing pretty amazing things with the blood from a woman's monthly cycle. Right now, you can enroll now for only $299 ($400 off the regular price!!! ) by using the Promo Code CN400. Consider this an investment in your future.

You're Going To Love This!

...and those of you who actually know my husband will love it more!

Last week, you might remember, I wanted to get my veggie plants outside. Wait, maybe I have been talking more about that on my craft blog, but it doesn't matter. Anyway, we didn't have enough dirt to fill my boxes, and Ryan was tired of digging holes behind our building, so we headed to Lowe's. Yes, Junior works as Home Depot, but we shop at Lowe's. Go figure. So we go to Lowe's, get a bunch of soil and mulch, a couple of tomato plants, and I got a houseplant. We wrote a check for $41.17 and went on our merry little way.

I got up Saturday morning, and like I do every day, I went to my bank's website to check the balance of my account. Everything looked good, except for a check for $44.17. I pulled up the check to look at it, and it's the Lowe's check. They put the check into the system for $3 too much. I called the bank...they are open on weekends...and the teller looked it up and told me I could do one of two things. I could dispute it with them, and it would take 10 to 15 days. OR, I could take a copy of the check to Lowe's, show them the mistakes, and they could just refund us the difference. I decided to go with option two.

I called Junior at work and told him he needed to swing by the bank when he got off work to pick up the copies they printed for me. I explained to him what happened, and when he got home, he was ready to go to Lowe's. Now, those of you who know Junior, know that maybe this is something that I should take care of. Junior has a tendency to get mad quickly, and I didn't want to make a scene in the store.

Junior told me that he had been thinking about it, and he felt that Lowe's owed us a bounced check fee. His logic...if we had made a mistake in writing our check, we would have had to pay a $30 bounced check fee. Since THEY made a mistake to US, they should pay us a $30 "bounced check fee". Yes, I can see you all rolling your eyes...I did, too. This is also where I told him there was no way I was going into the store with him if he insisted on following that course of action. When we got to Lowe's, me and the kids waited in the car.

We waited...

and waited...

90 minutes later....yes...90 minutes...Junior finally came out of the store...with his $30 bounced check fee, plus our $3! I was in shock!

He said he nicely explained his position, and they called everyone from store manager to corporate, to find out what to do, and in the end, decided that he had a valid point, so they paid him the money.

How crazy is that???

How Do People Live With Hate In Their Hearts?

Big question, huh?

I bet you're wondering why I'm asking, right?

To be honest, there is no reason other than my own curiosity.

It has been a long time since I have used the word hate about a person. I hate things, like spiders and having to get up so early every morning. I hate that I am unable to commit to a diet/exercise regimen so that I can lose weight and get healthy. I hate that I have no willpower. But I don't hate people, and I'm going to tell you why.

Hate hurts.

It consumes.

I know this, because I have seen what it can do. It becomes all you ever think about, and all you ever talk about. It makes a person feel better about themselves to downgrade another person, which is just sad. I would rather feel good about the things I do to improve the lives of others, not the things I do to tear other people down.

Now, I do hate things people do. I have no patience whatsoever for people who stay in abusive relationships, and I think there is a special place in hell for people who hurt children. Okay, so maybe I do hate people who hurt children. I guess there is an exception to everything. I am not trying to make myself look like this perfect woman who loves everyone. I don't love everyone. In fact, I dislike a lot of people. I have been guilty of talking about people, and it is not something I am proud of, and it's something I have worked hard not to do.

The hate I am talking about is the stuff that makes you do stupid things. The hate that makes you hurt people, not only physically, but emotionally. I watch everyday as hate hurts someone I love, which hurts me.

Can I do anything to make these feeling go away? No, because I can not change someone else's heart. I can just love with all of mine, and hope that somehow makes a difference.

My Girl

How beautiful is this picture?
We were getting ready to leave the lake, and Kasi didn't know I had my camera out.
I love the way the water looks as the sun goes down.
I have even more posted on my picture blog.
Go, take a look. I have more shots of the water as the sun sets over there.

Camera Critters ~ 32

This is Jack. Can you tell he wanted my attention?

He loves having his belly rubbed.

Unfortunately, we had to put down one of our other cats, Bob. I am pretty sure that someone poisoned him. A couple of weeks ago, he smelled like gasoline for a few days, but was otherwise okay. Then he started losing his hair on his legs, but was still acting okay. We just assumed he was irritated from the gas. Then a few days ago, he started losing weight, rapidly. And he started drooling constantly. So today we took him to be put to sleep. There was nothing else to do. I feel so bad that we didn't do something the first day, but other than smelling like gas, he was fine. I just hope that if he was poisoned, whoever did it leaves Jack and Spice alone.

To participate, go here.

Feeding Your Pets

Picture_2
I have cats. When we moved, we brought our five outdoor cats with us. Unfortunately, we only have two that stuck around. I know some cats have a hard time adjusting to new surroundings, and that was our problem with Zoe. She continually went back to where we used to live. After the fifth time of bringing her back, only for her to run away again, we left her over at the old house. She was crossing a four lane highway every time, and I didn't want her getting hit.

My cats are very good hunters. They love leaving me little gifts by the front door, and there have been many times I have caught them eating animals they have caught. A few weeks ago Jack was eating a squirrel. It was about the same size as he is. In the past they have caught rabbits, mice, and chipmunks. I think it's gross that they eat what they kill, but I understand that it's natural.

I have heard that some people feed their pets a diet of raw foods to keep them healthy. Eating raw foods not only help your pet stay healthier, it is what they were meant to do. Cats, by nature, are hunters. I love being able to watch my cats catch mice. It's so primal.

North Coast Pets has a line of food called B.A.R.F., which stands for bones and raw food. This diet is supposed to be very healthy for you cat, or dog. Not very many places carry this diet, but you can find it at North Coast Pets. They carry a lot of hard to find products. They even carry dehydrated foods for those people who do not want to handle raw foods.

I know my outside cats are very healthy, and I am sure it is because of their diet. But don't get me wrong, I do feed them regular cat food when they whine at the door. This lets me know they haven't caught anything in a couple of days, and they are hungry. I don't feed them too much, though, because I want them to hunt.

I don't want the mice to find their way inside!

I Can't Believe This

It's my blogs birthday! I can't believe it's been two years since I started on this adventure. Sure, this blog has gone through some changes...like the name!...but it's still my baby! Time sure has flown by! I hope I am still doing this for many years to come!

Saving Your Child's Cord Blood

You all know my kids over there. Ryan is thirteen, Kasi will be twelve next month, and Brandi Rose is seven. When I was pregnant with Ryan, saving his cord blood wasn't an option for us. The technology was new, and so expensive. Even seven years ago when Brandi was born, it was still beyond out budget. I wish I had known about Cryo-Cell
and how affordable it could be to protect my child's future. They are using cord blood to treat so many diseases these days, and there is no telling what other diseases it could help in the future.

A Cryo-Cell International Client wrote the following:

"My children are the most precious gifts that I will ever have and I want to do everything I can to make sure they are well. While I was pregnant with my first child, I would see articles and ads about cord blood and it bothered me that it was so expensive but what if I one day needed this blood. The reality of having only one chance or it really went in the garbage kept me wondering if I would regret not investing. What if he had cancer or his dad or I were sick, would that blood have been the cure? Through research, I came across Cryo-Cell International, Inc., a company with the most reasonable rates and the assurance of two holding facilities.

When I was pregnant with my second child, we wondered if one bank was enough? Finances were tighter and should we spend the money? Then we realized that his brothers blood might not match for the new baby. The next day, stories were breaking about how Cord blood had saved or changed the lives of children, one cancer, one cerebral palsy. Then we discovered that a friend was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. He didn't bank his daughters blood and wished he had. Three years prior, I lost a friend to renal cancer when she was 29. We felt like it was our answer.

We are just beginning to see miracles that this blood can bring. We have two "life insurance policies", that is how we look at it. If anyone in the family gets ill, there is a chance that the blood could save our lives. If we don't use it, then it is there for our son's children."

Sincerely,
mother of Parker and Davis

I think that looking at this investment as a life insurance policy is awesome. I had no idea that the blood could be saved for so many years, that your child's children could one day benefit from it. Unfortunately, I do not have plans to have another child, and I didn't bank my children's cord blood. It is something I regret a little more every time I read about the wonderful things they can do with it. I hope someday my children are able to do this for their children.

If you are want to save your child's cord blood, now is the time to enroll. If you do so before April 19, you will receive a free Baby Bjorn. Just remember, this is an investment in your child's future health. It's worth the cost.

Kids Songs

Picture_1
Okay, so we are a little late for the big $.99 sale. But that's okay. You can still download all 150 Fun Songs For Kids for just $9.49, and that's not a bad deal either.

Last week, I spent a lot of time in the car with my sisters and their kids, most of which are younger than my kids. Matthew is three, Carson is two, and Ashleigh is one. They are all at that age where they love listening to music, and my sisters both have CD's of children's songs. There was nothing cuter than listening to two little boys singing the Itsy Bitsy Spider. This downloadable CD has so many songs that I have never heard, plus all the favorites from my childhood. Do you remember singing On Top Of Old Smokey? I do, only I remember a different version. It was On Top Of Spaghetti. It went like this:

On top of spaghetti...all covered in cheese...I lost my poor meatball...when somebody sneezed
It rolled off the table...and onto the floor...and then my poor meatball...rolled right out the door

I think there was more but that is all I remember. It's funny the things that stick with us as we become adults.

Flowers

I was walking to the bus stop to get Brandi off the bus before, and saw these darling little flowers. The purple one was all alone, sticking out of the leaves.

This next one didn't come out the way I wanted, but it is cool none the less.
I love how the flower and leaves are out of focus, but you can see very clearly the texture of the rock behind it. I wish I knew how I did this, cause I really like the way it looks.

Go Barefoot

Wow.

That is the only word that comes to mind after watching that video.

Wow.

The Barefoot Challenge. Will you participate? Can you?

National Volunteer Week is taking place April 19 – 25, 2009. Twelve year old Bilaal Rajan is asking you, and me, to join him in this challenge during that week. All you have to do is go barefoot.

Sounds easy, right?

Let's think about it for a minute.

This means on those cold mornings, at 6:20 am, not shoving my feet into my fuzzy crocs to walk the kids to the bus stop.

This means when it is raining I don't get to wear something dry on my feet.

This means when I go to the store, I must walk through the parking lot, on the hot pavement, without the buffer of flip flops.

This means my feet will be dirty. Filthy, actually. If you know me, you know I can not stand to have dirty feet.

This means I will have to make the choice not to put shoes on my feet.

Do you know how many people don't even have that choice to make?

Too many.

I've heard it said you need to walk a mile in a person's shoes to know how hard their life is. Well, for this week, you have to walk in the footsteps, not the shoes, of those less fortunate. Will it be easy? Absolutely not. Will it be comfortable? I doubt it. Will it mean something? Without a doubt.

Maybe it will make people take a moment and be thankful for what they have. Maybe it will open people eyes to the disadvantages of others. Maybe it will just make people think.

The Wheel Are Turning Today

I realized something today.

Some days, I have nothing to say. I literally can sit here all day, and come up with nothing.

Nada.

Zilch.

Then there are the days like today, where there is so much going on inside my head, I don't know where to start.

I prefer the days when I have nothing to say sometimes.

Days like today give me a headache.

Kissimmee, Here I Come!

I have been thinking a lot lately about where we should go on vacation this year. Last year we weren't able to go anywhere because of my surgery. Ideally, I would love to be able to head to Kissimmee and take advantage of all the wonderful attractions available in that area. I may have to do a little more research to find a place where we can camp out, because we enjoy that so much, and it is a lot cheaper than staying in a hotel.

As as family, we love to do outdoor things together. That video above makes me want to head straight to those guys, and have them help me catch a huge bass. I don't really care how big, as long as it is bigger than anything Junior catches. There's nothing like a little healthy competition to make things fun. Of course, there is plenty of shore fishing that is totally free. There are many lakes in the area, and spending the day fishing and picnicking is probably one of our favorite things to do.

Of course, we would have to spend some time at the water park. That picture makes me just want to jump right in. I would give anything to be there right now, enjoying the sunshine and playing in the water. I mean, when I think of Florida, I think of sunshine, and with sunshine comes fun. That's just the way it is.

So what could make this vacation even better? That it is free! Right now, Kissimmee is giving away 3 weekend getaways for two, which are 3 days and 2 nights; and 2, week long vacations for four. That's right! Drawings will be held on the first of April, May, and June, so go enter. I know I'm going to. I need a vacation!

Duh

I think most of you are aware of my love for The Tudors. I know Henry VIII was not as good looking as Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and that they add some stuff to make the show interesting, but I swear, I would have learned a whole lot more in school if all of history was told like this.

I was watching the new episode a few days ago, and it ended with Jane Seymour finally getting pregnant. They showed scenes from next weeks episode, and left me hanging as to whether or not she lives through childbirth.

Then I got to thinking, duh, this is all true. I just need to give myself a little history lesson, and I will find my answer. So I googled it....lol!...and now know how things end. I spent a couple of hours engrossed ion all these websites. I was most drawn into the stories of Bloody Mary. I hope when The Tudors wrap up next year, they continue on and do a show about her. I would love to watch that, too.

Pictures

When Brandi was an infant, I had a Spring picture taken of the kids. I usually do a Christmas one, but Brandi was only 3 weeks old at that time, and I never got around to it. Turns out I liked the Spring picture better than any other I had taken, because the kids were in pastel colors. The girls has matching pale yellow dresses, and Ryan wore a white shirt and light colored tie.

I am thinking of dressing the kids up and taking a picture outside in front of all the purple flowers in my yard. I can get each girl a fancy dress and have Ryan wear a light colored dress shirt. If I beg enough, i might convince Junior to get in it with me and it can be a family photo. The last one we had done as a family doesn't even have Brandi in it.

Thursday Thirteen ~ Twelve

Thirteen (or more) Awesome Sidewalk Drawings

I know a lot of these pictures make the rounds in emails, but I just think they are awesome.
These were all drawn by Julian Beever.
Yes, I am aware that there are more than thirteen, but I couldn't decide which ones to use, so I used them all.
The last one, of the butterfly, is my favorite!
