Merry Christmas?

One of my favorite shows is The Big Bang Theory.  My mom has the first three seasons on dvd, and since we don't have cable right now I borrowed them from her.  We have been watching them pretty much nonstop, and the kids and I probably know every word to every episode now.  One of the things I find fascinating about this show is how these four grown men are so into comic books and all things geeky.  I am sure there are people like this in the real world, and they would probably love a good Gadgets Blog.  I found one that has all kinds of "toys for boys" on it, though I am sure there are girls out there who would be just as interested.

This blog not only shows off the neatest new gadgets, it also has Carbonite offer codes and other coupon codes.  I know I could probably find use for the Vistaprint coupons since I have been considering ordering some Christmas cards from them this year.  I haven't sent out cards in several years, but this year I want to, just to let everyone know about my upcoming divorce.

I mean, what better way is there to let people know what is going on in my life than with a Christmas card?

Looking Good

I just wrote a post about wanting to buy myself new clothes, which led me to searching online to find something cute.  I am still wearing plus size clothing, and I found a really cute dress that I would love to own.  It's cute, right?
I absolutely love the color, but I am not sure this particular style would look good on me.  Because I have lost almost one hundred pounds (I know...go me!) I have some sagging places, and the worst are my arms.  I have got some serious flappage going on, and I am not sure if a sleeveless is the way to go right now.  I have found that boxing on the wii helps to tone my arms, but I don't think the sagging will ever completely go away.

Another problem area I have is my tummy.  I carry most of my weight there, and I still have about 40 pounds I want to lose.  I am afraid a dress like this would make me look pregnant.  I know that plus size fashion has made great strides recently, so I am sure I can find something that will fit me perfectly if I just keep looking.

Maybe I should go with something black...I hear that makes you look thinner.

Pretty

Now that I have lost a bunch of weight, I am slowly replacing my wardrobe.  And I mean really slowly.  I am hesitant to buy too much because I still have a few pounds to lose, but one of the things I am looking forward to buying most are pretty bras.  I have spent my life in bras that were designed for function, not fashion.  It's hard enough to find plus size women's clothing, let alone cute plus sized bras.  I have been doing a little snooping around online, and I found this cute one.  What do you think?
Pretty, right?  I love that it is purple and lacy, two things I have never worn before.  The best thing is that it is plus sized, so I know I can find a size that will fit me.

I was also looking at plus size formal dresses just for fun, and I am very pleased with the selections I found.  In the past, whenever I have had to buy something nice, the choices were horrible.  I don't know if it's that designers finally figured out that big girls want to look pretty too or what, but I am glad there is more of a selection these days.

I am really looking forward to the day that I no longer need to buy plus size clothes.  I desperately want to be able to shop in the regular ladies section, even if I do have to buy an extra large.

CoolSculpting

I am sure I am not the only woman in the world who has some weight to lose.  Most of you know that over the past couple of years, I have lost a ton of weight.  Okay, maybe not a ton, but close to one hundred pounds.  And I did it all on my own with diet and exercise.  I still have weight to lose (about 50 pounds), but I am stuck.  Diet and exercise just aren't working anymore.  I don't want o do the gastric bypass, because let's face it, that is some scary stuff.  I don't want to do diet pills either, because I don;t want to put anything like that into my body.  I plan on getting married again someday (did I just say that???) and if I ever do, I wan to do the whole white dress thing. I didn't do that he last time around.  I did the courthouse thing.

But before I even think about trying on dresses, I want to be where I want to be weight wise.  I was reading about CoolSculpting and it sounds like it might be a great way to get rid of these last few pounds. The CoolSculpting website says "developed by Harvard scientists, our unique, patented, clinically proven procedure involves freezing fat cells without damage to your skin. There’s no knife. No suction hoses. No needles. No lasers, even. After your treatment, you get on with your busy day."  How cool is that?  You just go in, and have some fat frozen, and over the next few months, the pounds just melt away.  Of course, to maintain the loss you have to continue with a healthy diet and exercise, but it would be worth it to fit into a beautiful white dress.

CoolSculpting has a facebook page, and when you go check it out make sure you enter their 12 Weeks to Change Challenge.  There are a ton of prizes to be won, including a treatment valued at $1500.  Now, if you are anything like me, you think $1500 is a lot of money, and being able to win a treatment would be awesome.  I am going to enter the contest, and you should too.  I mean, what do you have to lose besides stubborn fat?

I'm Proud Of Me

For the first time in my adult life since I have been married, all of my bills are paid this month.  I know, that sounds crazy, but I have lived the past 16 years hoping to get my bills paid before the cut off date.  Since being on my own, I have become obsessed with making sure that my bills stay current.  I am trying really hard to undo some of the damage that was done to my credit during my marriage.  It's not easy.  In fact, it's pretty dang hard considering how little money I make, but I am doing it.  And I am pretty dang proud of myself.

Thankfully, I don't have too many bills.  I don't have any credit cards, and my bank, like Discover, offers all kinds of services that make paying my bills easier. The other night I sat here at the computer and set up online bill payments for my water and my internet services.  It's so much easier paying them online, especially with the hours I work.  I leave the house at 6:30am, and some days work straight through until 4:30pm.  Most days, though, I have a few hours off in the afternoon.  The only bad thing is that I have to stay close to the van in case my boss calls for me to go make a delivery.  This makes getting to a payment center difficult, so using online bill pay is a blessing.

I also do a lot of my banking online.  Well, I could probably say that other than depositing my paychecks into the atm every week, I do all of my banking online.  I love my debit card, and hardly ever carry cash anymore.  It's so much easier to track what I am spending when I can see it on the screen, and my bank posts debits and credits immediately.

I am hoping than I can afford to have the cable hooked up soon.  We have been watching dvd's since we moved, and to be honest, you can only watch the same program over and over for so long.  Ryan hooked up netflix on the wii the other day, and that has been pretty cool, but you can't watch "real" television on it, and I miss "real" television.  Now that my bills are straightened out, I can try and budget my money more efficiently to afford another bill every month.  At least that is what I am hoping.

For now, I am going to enjoy paying my bills on time, and work hard to keep us afloat.  It's a good feeling knowing I can take care of myself and my kids.

Hi.

Remember me?  Jenn?  I know, there probably aren't many of you left who still stop by to check on me.  I know this because my numbers have gone to crap, and the funny thing is, that doesn't matter to me anymore.  Yes, there was a time I was dropping 300 ecards every day, and visiting and commenting on many, many blogs.  These days?  I don't have time to breathe, let alone blog.  I miss it.  I really do.  I have met so many wonderful people through this blog who I can truly call my friends.  You know who you are....you have been keeping up with me on facebook.  Many of you have also stopped blogging to for one reason or another.

I have been thinking about a lot of things lately, one of which is why I used to spend so much time online.  Looking back it's easy to see that I was using this blog as a way of connecting with people in a guarded way.  You see, I was very unhappy with my life.  I sat home all the time and never did anything.  I had a few friends, but no one I was particularly close with. I could be whoever I wanted to be on here, and I didn't have to keep my guard up all the time.  Words are easy to type...it was much harder to hide from the real world how much I was hurting.  My weight was out of control...I was tired of depending on other people for everything.  My marriage was in trouble for a while...though I got very good at pretending things were fine.  And maybe things were fine, but is that really a good way to live?  Being fine all the time?  I wanted to be happy...I just didn't know how to be.

Today, I am happy.  Truly and honestly happy.  I love being independent, though I still depend on my family and friends for support and the occasional car repair (Thanks Daddy!).  I love working, which is kind of weird,  but I think that has more to do with my job than anything else.  As hard as it is being a single parent, I think I have found my groove there.  Sure, we struggle, but it is worth it to be standing on my own two feet for the first time in my life.  I have never lived alone before, where I have been responsible for everything.  I went from my parents home, to an apartment with my sister and brother, back to my mom's house, and then I got married.  I am exhausted all the time, but in a good way.  I am still seeing my therapist, though we recently changed from every week to every two weeks because she thinks I am doing well.  And I guess I am.

I hope someday I will want to be in another relationship.  I don't think I want to be alone for the rest of my life.  But for now, my kids are my main concern, and there are still things I am learning about myself.  I still have weight to lose, though this summer has been "hold steady" for me.  That is not necessarily a bad thing, since in the past I have always regained weight by now.  I am still down almost 100 punds, and I haven't gained back anything I have lost.  I will be happy when these last 40 or so pounds are gone, but for now, I am just enjoying life and all it has to offer.

I mean, why shouldn't I?

I Dream Of Walking On The Sandy Beaches Of Somewhere Tropical

I have been kid-less for five days now, and while I am enjoying this unusual time to myself, I miss them like crazy.  I think this is the longest I have ever gone without seeing their beautiful faces everyday.  I can not wait until tomorrow, when I get home from work, and they are here, waiting on me.

Right now, they are on vacation with my husband and his girlfriend.  They are spending the weekend camping on a lake, enjoying their time fishing and swimming.  I talk to them several times a day, but it's not the same as seeing them, and getting my hugs and kisses.  They are having so much fun, though, that my missing them is worth it.

I wish I could afford to take them on some kind of vacation, but that's just not in the cards for me this summer.  Maybe next year I can sock away some of my tax refund to take them somewhere fun next summer.  I have always wanted to take a cruise, and I hear Carnival Cruises are very child friendly, so I might look into that.  Of course, I would need another adult yo come along, and since I have no desire to start a relationship with anyone right now, I would probably take my mom.  I know she would have a good time.

The hard part is deciding where to go.  It has always been a dream of mine to walk along the beaches of Hawaii, so I would probably want to go there.  Then again, I think any tropical place with sandy beaches and crystal clear water would be beautiful.  Where would you recommend I go?

Dog Friendly Condos Alexandria VA

Most of you know that the kids and I moved into an apartment complex a few months ago.  So far, we are loving it.  I no longer have a yard I have to worry about mowing, which is nice, even though mowing the grass used to be one of my favorite things to do.  I hear that condomimium living is just as nice.

Most of you also know that I now drive a delivery van every day.  I love my job.  I love that I spend most of my day alone, with just my radio.  It's wonderful not having to deal with cranky co-workers.  In fact, one of my customers asked me the other day what I liked best about my job, and I told her that exact thing.  I also love that I do something different every day.  I never know where my boss will send me, and I get to see a lot of different things.

The other day I was driving down the interstate, and I saw a billboard for a hotel, and their biggest selling point was that they were pet friendly.  They offered a dog park right in their hotel, which is awesome if you happen to be traveling with your pet.  I know there are some people who think of their dogs as their children, so having a park for them to play in is probably a great reason to stay at this particular hotel.  I was amused when I read online that there are even Alexandria Virginia condos that offer a dog park to their residents.  They call it the Bark Park, which I think is an awesome name.   One of the things my kids loved best about where we live is the little park they can play in, so I can only imagine how excited dog lovers would be to live somewhere that has a place for their dogs to play, especially since condos don't have yards of their own.

I wonder what other peculiar things I will see while I am driving this week?

FSU Football Parking And Tailgating

I have lived in the south for almost 20 years now.  Wow, that's kind of crazy to say.  Most days it's hard for me to believe that I will be 40 on my next birthday.  I sure don't feel that old.

When I moved to South Carolina, I was surprised by how big a deal football is.  I don't pay much attention to sports in general, but it seems like everyone is headed to high school football games on Friday nights around here.  College football is even more popular than high school football.  I have never been to a game myself (shocking, I know) but I hear tailgating is a big thing.  I bet it's fun to hang out outside the stadium grilling out and spending time with friends.  I'm pretty sure there is a whole lot of drinking going on, too.

If you are into football, I am sure you know all about the benefits of becoming a booster at the school you support.  If that school happens to be Florida State University, you know all about their tailgating. They offer 14 different FSU football parking lots to tailgate in, and your parking spot depends on your membership level.  I am assuming that this means the more you contribute to the school, the better your parking spot. I am also assuming that as long as you are with your friends and having a good time, location shouldn't matter.  The company of good friends should trump a walk to the stadium.

My son never really got into playing sports, so I still have not experienced the thrill of Friday nights.  Maybe someday, if I have grandsons, they will play sports.  Until then, I will continue to spend my Friday nights at home.  In my pajamas.  Where it's warm.  I hear those Friday nights can get downright chilly.

Summer In Branson

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hiltons of Branson for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

For just a moment, let's pretend that I have extra money laying around that I am going to use to take the kids and I on a vacation.  I would love to go to Hawaii, but until they build a bridge, that will remain a dream of mine.  Where ever I take the kids, it would have to be somewhere fun, with lots of things to do.  And it would have to be relatively inexpensive.

Right now, the Hiltons of Branson are offering a pretty nice package deal, called the Branson Best Value Vacation Package.  This package includes deluxe accommodations at the Hilton Promenade or the Hilton Convention Center, two adult and two children’s tickets to the Legends of Kung Fu show at the White House Theater in Branson, MO, two adult and two children’s two-day passes to Silver Dollar City®, a $25 gift card for shopping, and a $25 food credit for Level 2 Steakhouse. On top of all that your third night is free!  I would love to take the kids to Silver Dollar City.  I remember seeing an episode of The Duggars where they visited the park, and it looked extremely kid friendly.  With two day passes, I am sure we could spend a lot of time riding the rides and getting sick from them all.  I am assuming that Ryan would pass as an adult, and hopefully Kasi is still young enough to use a child's ticket.

For now, though, I am going to have to just imagine us on vacation.  Maybe next summer I will have enough money for a real vacation.

Extra Money, Anyone?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of uSell for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Money has been tight around here lately, but to my regular readers, that comes as no surprise.  I think everyone is struggling these days, whether it be finding the money to put gas in the car or food on the table.  My kids have been understanding that I can't buy them every single thing they ask for, as much as I would really love to be able to.  I have been racking my brain trying to figure out a way to make some extra cash so I can at least take them away for a day to the mountains or something.  I know I won't be able to afford a ful vacation, but an escape for a day is better than nothing, right?

Picture 2
I heard about this website that gives you Cash for Your Cell Phones and Electronics, and I think it might be something worth looking into.  I know of at least five different cell phones we have laying around this house that no one is using, and if I could sell them for even $20, that would be wonderful.  The process seems pretty simple, too.  You just find your brand and model of phone, select the amount of money you will accept as payment from the offers you'll see, and then you get paid.

Of course, you can sell other electronics, too.  I wonder what else  have laying around the house that no one would miss...

Summertime Blues

Guest post by Gerard Mcdaniel

It gets really hot here in the summer and with the kids here at home we often leave all the doors and windows open to get a really nice cross-breeze in the house but sometimes it makes me feel less than safe. We live in a good neighborhood and everything but you never know who could be walking through at any given time. I’m also really afraid when we leave the house to go somewhere someone’s going to forget to close one of the windows or something and then anyone could come in and take whatever they wanted! So anyway, I asked my husband if he’d look at http://www.ALlhOMEsECURTY.com/ with me and now we’ve got a security system so I feel a lot better about the whole thing. I’m not generally so paranoid but when I’m at home all day with the family I want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to make sure everyone is safe all the time! It makes me feel like a good mom!

Relaxing!

So far, I am enjoying my Holiday weekend.  I am lucky enough to have Monday off, which means an extra day to sleep in, but it also means I lose a day's pay.  That is not really a good thing, but I think it will be worth it when I am floating around in Mom's pool all day Monday, without a care.  I think we all deserve a day like that every now and then.  In fact, that pretty much sums up my day today.  I was so relaxed I actually fell asleep on a float.

It was wonderful.

As much as I will enjoy the relaxation, I am looking forward to going back to work Tuesday.  I love my job.  I love that although I do have a routine in the mornings and afternoons, between them I never know where I might go or what I'll be doing.  I enjoy being in the van by myself.  I usually turn the radio up and sing along.  I am so lucky that I was able to get this job, especially since I don't have much driving experience.  When I first started looking for work after my husband left, I didn't even know how to write up a resume.  I mean, I had been a stay at home mom for several years, and the last job I worked was McDonald's.  My sister said I should look online for resume help so that I could get something together to add to all the applications I was filling out.   I never did, and I'm not sure if that an impact on my lack of responses to all the applications I did submit.  Then again, I think that I am right where I am supposed to be right now, so everything worked out for the best.  The funny thing is, I swore up and down that I would never work another job where I had to wear my hair up every day, yet most days, I end up with my hair in a bun, off my neck.  I start the day all pretty, with my hair fixed (and down) and my makeup done, but by mid-morning, I am sweating, so the hair goes up.  By that time, I have already impressed who it is I like to impress, so I don't care.

One of these days I'll post a recent picture of myself.  I am sure you will all be impressed with how good I look.  I know that I am. :)

Find Out What You Are Having The Easy Way

Did you know that you can find out the sex of the baby you are carrying simply by using your pee?  That's right.  There is a Baby Gender Prediction Test that claims it can tell you the gender of your child as early as six weeks into your pregnancy. If you are anything like I was, you want to know what you are having as soon as possible.  Is it a boy or a girl?  I knew, before my ultrasounds, what each of my kids were.  I just had a strong feeling with each one, and with each one I was correct.  Call it a mother's intuition or whatever. I didn't need a gender test to tell me.

It would be nice to know the sex early on, that way you can start planning. I loved buying pink things for my girls and blue things for Ryan.  I think I had the most fun with Brandi's pregnancy simply because her daddy and I were both working so there was extra money to buy girly things.

The concept of this test is similar to a pregnancy test, only it glows pink or blue, depending on what you are having, instead of showing a plus or minus sign, or one or two lines.  I am really curious to know how accurate this test is, so if you are expecting and decide to try it out, let me know your results.

Swimming, Sleeping, And Watches

I know this guy who owns several different watches.  I thought it was only women who matched their watches to their outfits, but apparently I was wrong.  His watches are pretty awesome, too.  I'm not sure if he owns a invicta mens watch, but I do know he has one that has a purple face.  Yes, that's right. It's purple. Makes you wonder why I like that one best, doesn't it?

My mom gave me a watch for Christmas last year, and it broke soon after.  The watch itself is fine, it's the band that snapped.  It had a stretchable beaded band that was beautiful.  My mom says she can fix it, if she ever finds the time.  She's like me these days...so busy.  I hate that most days by the time I get home from work I am too tired to do much of anything.  I have been taking the kids swimming every night (okay, I have been swimming too) so I feel like I never have time to just relax.  Then when I do decide to stay home in the evenings, I miss swimming.  I just can't win.

Maybe I just need to go to bed now and try to get a good nights sleep.  Or maybe I'll just play on Facebook for a little while longer.  Yeah, I think Facebook will win.

New Glasses?

I'm thinking about getting new glasses.  It's been a few years since I've had my eyes checked, and while I think my prescription is fine, I think I might want new frames.  I have been doing a lot of changing here recently, so why should I hang on to my old eyeglasses? The other day I noticed that my boss got new glasses, so maybe I was inspired by that?  Who knows.  All I do know is that I want something new.

Of course, I will have to find affortable eyeglasses because I don't have much "extra" money every month.  In fact, I can not tell you how happy I was when I wrote my rent check today, on the first of the month, and I am I don't have to stress about the money being in the bank.  It's there.  No question.

But let's get back to my new glasses.  You all know what I look like, and you know what my glasses look like.  How different should I go?  I won't go so far as to hunt down purple glasses with elephants on them, but I do want something with a little color, even if that color is black.  What do you think?
